Roald Dahl's Birthday

We wildcats LOVE Roald Dahl.  He's written some of our favorite books:  The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Matilda, the Twits, the Witches, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc...(You can find most of these in the fiction section- DAH).

Thursday, September 13, 1916 would have been Dahl's 94th birthday.  In celebration, this article collected some favorite quotes, a few of which we are sharing below.  Happy reading!  Be sure to check out the Roald Dahl site for more information.

  • “So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.” -Matilda

  • “A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” -The Twits

  • “So, please, oh please, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away, and in its place you can install, a lovely bookcase on the wall.” -Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

  • “The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives. She went on olden-day sailing ships with Joseph Conrad. She went to Africa with Ernest Hemingway and to India with Rudyard Kipling. She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village.” -Matilda
