November Updates

Our October Book Fair was very successful. We raised nearly $700 in cash for books, plus added over $300 worth of materials to our collection.  Thanks very much to our the Oglethorpe community for your support.  Thanks also to all of our parents and grandparents who volunteered!

Over the past month, over 250 netbooks have been distributed to our classrooms.  Our technology education specialist, Scott Wilkerson, did a fabulous job helping us create a plan for inventorying our new computers.  Dr. Dunne, Mr. Frazier, Ms. Hanks, Mrs. Sugiuchi and other members of the media and technology committee developed expectations for computer conduct, which were shared with the entire school.  Ms. Hanks and Mrs. Sugiuchi have been leading lessons with all grades about staying safe online and avoiding cyberbullying.

In other media center news, Mrs. Sugiuchi has been teaching students how to find information using nonfiction books.
Kindergarten is learning about the origins of Thanksgiving.  We also are are reading Thanksgiving poems.

In First Grade, we are studying Sacagawea.
Our second graders are learning about the Creek Indians.
Our first and second graders are using our new netbooks to complete graphic organizers on facts we have learned.

This Thursday, we finish our fall clusters.  Mrs. Sugiuchi and Mrs. Wehunt have been leading the zumba cluster.  Below is our favorite song!
