We Give Books, Reference Reviews, Christmas and More

During December, the upper grades and I have practiced our research skills.  In 4th and 5th Grade, we have been conducting Reference Scavenger Hunts, where we race to find answers in different resources (almanac, atlas, dictionary, encyclopedia, and thesaurus).  2nd and 3rd grade has been practicing dictionary skills.  One new cool tech tool which makes these activities more fun is socrative, which allows me to create quizzes that the students respond to on their netbooks.  Students can even race against each other.  Learning reference features has never been more fun.

We've been celebrating Christmas stories in the lower grades.  Pete the Cat Saves Christmas is a new favorite.

One new resource we are enjoying is We Give Books. This free online library allows your child to choose more than 150 books to read for free.  I hope that you all remember to enjoy reading over the holidays.  When you get back, check out one of the 500 books our volunteers and I have recently cataloged.  We have lots of fabulous new additions to our collection.

My new favorite website is symbaloo, a visual bookmarking tool where you can collect links. Check out this webmix I made to discover cool websites.

  Happy exploring!
