Exciting News! Books for Keeps! AthFest Educates! Hooray!

Hooray!  Hooray!  Last week Leslie Hale from Books for Keeps informed me that our school, Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary, has been chosen to be a Books for Keeps School.  This is SO AWESOME because at the end of the year, every student at Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary will take home 12 BOOKS.

If you don't know about Books for Keeps, they are an AMAZING organization that provides free books to children over the summer so that their brains will stay "active, engaged and growing outside of the school year.” How?  Because reading makes your brain grow

Thursday- Sunday Books for Keeps will be hosting a sale at the Homewood Village Shopping Center (2415-c Jefferson Road, just off the loop).  You and your family should go and stock up on inexpensive books. There are LOTS of great bargains to be had! Plus it benefits OAES!

In other exciting news, last week I discovered that Athfest Educates awarded the OAES SLMC another grant to provide a fun program in our library with Marty Barnett and Pat Bell from the Woodruff Center for the Arts.  These are the same awesome folks who performed our Poetry Off the Page Celebration. We <3 you, Athfest! And, get ready for a good time, wildcats! More details will be available soon.
