Book Fair, Wildcat Writing Challenge, ACC Library, and more, more, more!

Wowza, Wildcats- between book fair and Octoberfest and Halloween and our oh so awesome clusters- this month has been the busiest

Book Fair was great fun.  We sold over $3500 worth of books and merchandise. In exchange, we kept $550 in cash to fund media center programming, plus we also were able to select more than $600 in new books for our S.L.M.C..  There are some fabulous titles- like the I Survived series (shark attacks, Titanic, Gettysburg, etc.), more Lego books, Llama Llama, Fancy Nancy, Rick Riordan's House of Hades- which will be available for checkout very soon. Thanks so much to our wonderful volunteers, students, and the entire Oglethorpe community, who helped this last venture become as smashing success!

We are continuing our exploration of our school library media center- learning how to find the books we love.  We have been focusing on finding informational books for our reports.  We are undertaking scavenger hunts, and learning to read the end markers in the Dewey, Everyone and Fiction Sections. For a refresher of any of the skills we have learned, you can view all of our videos here

Thursday (Halloween) is the last day to submit your responses for the Wildcat Writing Challenge.  Authors will earn prizes galore.  I hope, hope, hope you take part.  I also hope you will keep writing post-challenge. Georgia author Flannery O'Connor wrote "I write because I don't know what I think until I read what I say." Yes! I believe writing is one of the most important things in the world.

4th and 5th graders- check out these two great programs for you at the Athens Clarke County Library.

1. Clarke Middle Students (a.k.a. Owls) will be providing homework help for  4th and  5th graders in a variety of subjects. This group
will meet every Wednesday in November from 4-5 p.m. in Multipurpose Room A.

2.  Do you dream of being an author? Did you know that November is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)? If so, join other 11-18 year olds at the ACC Library every Thursday in November from 4-6 p.m. in the Teen Department for writing meet-ups. Bring your laptop or use one of their computers.

Hope you all have the best week ever!  Happy Reading!
