Meet Our Fall 2013 Interns!

Our school library media center is great largely because of how we (our students, staff, and interns) collaborate. Our UGA interns rock Ms. Sugi's world daily- we have some amazing people working with us this semester! They have been helping us with a wide variety of tasks (displays, labeling, processing and shelving thousands of books, etc.), and this week they are beginning the book clubs for 4th and 5th grades. The titles they chose are from this year's selection for the Battle of the Books.

Ms. Taylor loves the books in our fiction section.
First, we have Ms. Taylor Lear (a.k.a. Ms. Taylor L.). Ms. Taylor is a second-year student at the University of Georgia. She is majoring in English and Advertising, with a minor in History. She is a staff member of the Pandora Yearbook at UGA, and acts as a Study Abroad Peer Mentor through the Office of International Education. During the summer of 2013, she studied abroad at Oxford University and would love to return there before she graduates. Taylor loves reading and writing, and is really excited to be a part of the Media Center at Oglethorpe Avenue.

Mr. Todd with our graphic novels. Mr. Todd used to own a comic book store!

Next, we have Mr. Todd Lawrence. Mr. Todd grew up in Dublin, GA but moved to Athens in 1994 so he considers himself an Athenian (just like Ms. Sugi!). He graduated last May with a bachelor's degree in English. Next fall he will be entering the master's program in social work at UGA. He has a full time job as a manager of a dry cleaner and in his spare time he enjoys playing darts in the Athens Dart Association. This October 26th he will be marrying his beautiful fiance, Summer!

Ms. Ashleigh loves all of the Harry Potter books!

Also, we have Ms. Ashleigh Sinclair (a.k.a. Ms. Ashleigh S.). Ms. Ashleigh is a fourth-year student at the University of Georgia. She will graduate in May with her bachelor's degree in Public Relations and a minor in Theatre. She is a member of the UGA Flagline and loves performing every Saturday "between the hedges." In 2012, Ms. Ashleigh spent a year in Orlando working and studying on the Disney College Program, and is currently a seasonal cast member at Walt Disney World. She loves reading, and is very excited to be an intern at our LMC!

Mr. Andrew meeting with his book club for the first time! Our kids are excited!
Mr. Andrew Rabanal is a third year Theatre major with a Music minor, who plans to graduate in May. He hopes to attend graduate school for education in 2014. He enjoys singing with the UGA Hodgson Singers and the vocal jazz group, Classic City Jazz, as well as performing in any theatre productions he can take part in. During his spare time, he plays guitar, piano, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. He is excited to be working at Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary School, and he enjoys working with all the awesome students.

Ms. Taylor read every Goosebumps book when she was younger!
Ms. Taylor Gordon (a.k.a. Ms. Taylor G.) is graduating from the University of Georgia in December with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. She is a published poet and aspiring novelist, and plans to move back home to Tennessee after graduation. She spends her spare time working on her novel, volunteering with animals and doing outdoor activities like backpacking and camping with her own dog, a Great Dane mix named Heidi. She loves making many awesome videos for our LMC!

Ms. Ashley is helping Ms. Sugi revamp our L.M.C. website. Ella Enchanted (<3) is one of her favorite books!

Ms. Ashley Delventura (a.k.a. Ms. Ashley D.) is currently a senior at the University of Georgia and will graduate in December with degrees in Advertising and German and a minor in Comparative Literature. In her spare time she loves to read and play with her crazy dog, Fezzik, who is named after one of her favorite characters from William Goldman’s The Princess Bride. She spent the summer interning with marketing department at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta and got to see some really cool puppets! She’s really excited to spend this semester interning in the OAES Media Center!

Finally, we have Ms. Jane Whatley. She is a third year student at the University of Georgia. Her major is English and English Education, and she looks forward to being a high school English teacher one day. Some of her favorite things include: going to the beach, spending time with family and friends, and playing the clarinet in the UGA Redcoat Marching Band. Here in our LMC, Ms. Jane enjoys shelving books, working on the book fair, and working with our amazing students!

When you see our interns, make sure you tell super thanks for all they do- they are helping make our L.M.C. awesome for YOU!
