Poetry, Poetry Party, & Celebrating Our Favorite Characters on Halloween!

Happy Halloween, Wildcats!  Hope you have a safe one!  I've spent the day snapping pictures of some of the great costumes we wore to celebrate our favorite books and poems.

Speaking of poetry, this week our kindergarten and first and third grades have been reading Mary Howitt's  The Spider and the Fly, incredibly illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi, which is not only a great narrative poem, but also teaches us to "close heart and ear and eye" to those who would try and trick us in order to hurt us.  If you'd like to experience another fan's rendition, check out this video.

Lastly, our Poetry Party cluster is in full swing.  Over the past few weeks we have created poetry journals in which we copy and write poems. We have recited poems.  We created Crowns of Poems, where we wrote or copied poems onto crowns (best writing headgear EVER!).  And our own Ms. Taylor G. even took footage of us reciting our poems from our crowns and created a video, which you can view below.

Have a fabulous LONG weekend.  Remember to WRITE in your JOURNALS. And, as always, READ LOTS and LOTS of BOOKS!
